Passenger Assistant

PATS is the Passenger Assistant Training Scheme and is administered by the Community Transport Association. The scheme provides a nationally recognised standard for training Passenger Assistants: those whose role it is to provide care and assistance to passengers travelling on the road.



Passenger Assistant training costs £189.00 per delegate.


Employees of a MiDAS registered organisations. Organisations can register for free.


PATS training is available to anyone who has care or supervision responsibilities of passengers traveling by road: in minibuses, cars, taxis, or large buses.


The training course will be facilitated by a Passenger Assistant Observer.


Each delegate must complete a theory assessment for every module they undertake.

Where a module includes a driving or practical skills assessment, each delegate must complete the assessment.

Each driving assessment or observed drive must last for a minimum of 30 minutes.

Additional time should be allocated for the demonstrations, familiarisation and supervised practices as required.

  • Module A – The Role of the Passenger Assistant theory (3 hours)
  • Module B1 – Passenger Awareness and Assistance theory (1 hour 30 minutes)
  • Module B2 – Assisting Passengers who travel in wheelchairs theory (1 hour 30 minutes)
  • Module C1 – Supervising children and young people with special needs theory (1 hour)
  • Module C2 – Working with adults who require care and supervision theory (1 hour)
  • Practical skills assessment (Up to 1 hour per delegate)

The nearest train stations are at Milton Keynes and Northampton. Onward bus routes from these stations to Towcester are infrequent and subject to change. There is no direct bus link to the ABILITY office at Caswell Science Park.
